Vertical Carnival Dispatches

This post's a little shout out to my hometown boy Renan Ozturk, who quite possibly has the best job in the world. He gets paid and fully-outfitted to go on multi-month international climbing expeditions courtesy of The North Face and post short film dispatches along the way. Apparently he's got some incredible climbing skills. So good, in fact, that recent years have found him sending first ascents in Nepal, Patagonia, and Pakistan, to name a few. I think a certain amount of brand loyalty is implied, but overall it seems to be the best deal going right now. I'm starting to look into such arrangements for myself, and am wondering if they're looking for any moderately-skilled telemark skiiers to travel the globe, drink beer, make turns, and do the film thing. I have yet to find any takers.

Anyway, to get to the point, check out his blog: Vertical Carnival Dispatches.

There you'll find over a dozen dispatches from his recent expedition in South America, with everything from Patagonia climbs to Rio de Janiero slacklines. Pretty inspiring footage.

Also, when not climbing and walking slacklines, Renan makes some amazing art. See below. And check out his website at Rock Monkey Art. Word.

Good lord...

RnB jam of the week, no question...

In other news, for me audio peeps...this is hopefully being installed at APT this summer...the Funktion-One...melt paint off the walls...

Also hoping to put one of these out on the lamppost in front of the crib...don't let the ball roll down the hill...

Little known fact...Roomie was at the Big East Tourney game in '85...the year this crew won it all...

The staff at APT also has SPRING FEVER big time...W2 has your workout plan covered, so let Roomie take care of the fashion requirements...

These are about to become a fashion essential in about 10 short weeks...

These...please no thank you.

Check what else is getting a facelift...no pun intended...maybe their best...out Tuesday...

Peace and love...Rommie Kid

Where the Wild Things Are

Perhaps you have heard that Maurice Sendak's classic is being brought to life by the likes of Spike Jonze, Dave Eggers, Forest Whitaker, Katherine Keener, Mark Ruffalo and the musical stylings of Arcade Fire, Jack White, and Karen O (of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs).

Take a look and listen to the fruits of their labors.

PS Comic geeks get on board with this title now. Props to T-Bird for showing me this one.

My Hero

Glenn "Big Baby" Davis might be the most unlikely guy to be leading the Celtics on a fast break. Especially with homecourt advantage hanging in the balance. But APT will always give props to a heavy-set, slightly cross-eyed dude listed at 6 foot 9 inches and 290 lbs. (closer to 6 foot 7 and 320lbs) with skills going around the back. Straight ballin'.

PS The Clippers killed Baron Davis. Fucking Baron Davis. The most APT-roller skatin-Bay Area-fly boy ever. Stupid Clippers.

Joseph Kosinski, QoS

A really amazing commercial by director Joseph Kosinski.

More on this dude here...you can watch all his work in HD on his site...and there is more to come...stay tuned...

A hint here.

In other movie news, this comes out on DVD Tuesday...
...although it got panned by just about anyone I know, I still thought it had some of the best action sequences I've seen in a while...not a big CGI fan, so when someone does it old school, I gots to give it up...

Here are two to check out:

Jump into Spring

APTers, spring is knocking on the door. This means that summer is also right around the corner. Now if you are anything like me, this is the time of year when you pick up your exercise routine and get ready to squeeze into those new bikini swim trunks your mom bought you at Christmas.

It can be very difficult prioritizing your physical appearance over the essentials...March Madness, work, family, the BEER GARDEN. So I took some time to find the perfect motivational speaker. Please click below and discover Arnold's secret to success. You will not be disappointed.

See you at the gym.

First Basket

Enjoy this trailer from the forthcoming documentary about the orgins of hoops in the Jewish neighborhoods of New York. The soundtrack will make the most fickle heads bounce. It features a 15 person ensemble directed by Cuba's Roberto Juan Rodriguez. With tracks entitled Red Auerbach and The Holyland Dribble, how could you go wrong.

For the record APT is not a basketball site. Nor is it a Jewish site. It just feels that way. Respect the game and our chutzpah.

The Maine Red Claws?

As has been previously stated at APT and one or two other spots, Portland Maine is getting an NBA Developmental League franchise. Roomie is certain that the future ballers of Portland are as good as on his couch chillin with SB 1200 sippin' on a "Sarah's Loaded Cervasa". While he may be putting the cart just a bit in front of the horse, we do have a unique opportunity to help name our future team. Stop by here to cast your vote.

I am underwhelmed by the options...but there is nothing underwhelming about the above. Former Anaheim Arsenal member James "Flight" White was just promoted to the Houston Rockets. The dude has some serious bunnies!

Who is Diego Bernal?

The eye peering at you from behind the vinyl belongs to a slick Texican thirty-something who makes instrumental joints in his bedroom by night, while fighting crime as a lawyer by day. His beats are sliced up funk with clever samples of the Pete Rock and J Dilla variety. 100% APT certified funk for your hide!
